Performance mock-up, superimposing a still from Apichatpong Weerasethakul's "Ashes" with an image of the Sri Mariamman Temple to produce a double exposure LomoKino effect (courtesy of the artist)
"Drawing inspiration from Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s short film Ashes (2012), which uses a novelty LomoKino camera to produce a stuttered film of passages between the political and personal, this work asks a performer to reenact the ritualistic mechanisms of the LomoKino as they journey around the Mariamman Temple in Bangkok—a Hindu temple also known as the Wat Khaek Silom, a name used as a derogatory term for Indians living in Thailand, which simultaneously implies both Hindu and Muslim identities."
